Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie (originally Angelina Jolie Voight) is an American actor and director best known for her sexual edginess, sex appeal and humanitarian work. Jolie was awarded an Academy Award for her supporting character as a mental patient in Girl, Interrupted (1999).Jolie, daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent much of her childhood in New York before relocating to Los Angeles at age 11. After going to the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years later, she was began her studies at Beverly Hills High School. New York University later taught her drama. She also appeared in theatre productions and modeled for music videos. It was during Hackers (1995) that Jolie met Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married 1997; divorced 1999). The film was not able to attract an audience, as did a series of subsequent movies. Jolie, who played the role of the governor's wife of Alabama's segregationist governor, received much attention in 1997. Later, she won a Golden Globe Award. In the HBO film Gia in which she was a supermodel who had a drug addiction. She received numerous honours and awards, including an award of the Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award. Following her Oscar-winning performance Girl, Interrupted, Jolie played in Pushing Tin, a comedy featuring John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton and Billy Bob Thornton. In 2003, she divorced. She played the girlfriend of carjackers (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) and later adopted a British accent and was able to master street fighting and kickboxing for the lead roles in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). The actress played Alexander's mother in Oliver Stone's Alexander (2004) as well as starred alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow in Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow (a sci-fi thriller set 1930s New York City). Both films were unsuccessful at the box office, but Jolie was successful with Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005). She played a woman who pretended to play an assassin. While working on the film, she was introduced to Brad Pitt who became her co-star.
