John William Ferrell, born on July 16, 1967, in Irvine, California. The oldest child of Righteous Brothers keyboardist Lee Ferrell and teacher Kay Ferrell, Will was--by his own admission--not the class clown when he was when he was a student at University High School. Ferrell who was quiet and serious, chose to make his mark in football where he set records for the number of field goals scored. Ferrell was more of a relaxed person at home in the suburbs and didn't show the same kind of outrageous or humorous expressions later in his career. His mother, who was interviewed by Esquire reported Ferrell was even-tempered and easygoing. "You know those little Matchbox cars? Will would line up his Matchbox cars on his own and be extremely happy. You'd ask, "You want to go to Disneyland today?" That would be a challenging discussion for him to think about. Ferrell wasn't a straight man. One of Ferrell's comedy talent was displayed every day at school when he disguised himself to announce the events of the day over the PA system. Upon graduation in 1986, Ferrell went to the University of Southern California at Los Angeles, where he joined Delta Tau, the Delta Tau fraternity and pursued a degree in sports journalism.
